February Family Friendly Painting Workshops near Thirsk

Warm the heart with creativity on a cold winter Saturday with the ‘Myths and Legends’ inspired workshop 10-1PM Saturday 29th February

Well, January saw the launch of the first Family Friendly Painting Workshop held at York House Holiday Park in Balk, near Thirsk North Yorkshire. It was a joy to run and everyone had such a lovely time, learning new painting skills and techniques together in this wonderful, calm relaxed holiday environment, whilst enjoying the gorgeous refreshments provided by the Old Barn Cafe on site.

The Aim of the family friendly workshops is to create space, opportunity and some special time to create together as a family if wanted or alone to relax and I’m happy to say that we had families, mum’s and daughters of all ages and people coming for a calm time on their own and it was a wonderful morning.

The idea came from a few friends who said they would love to make time to come and paint with their children who love art and create some special memoriesโค๐ŸŽจ So I designed the workshop to allow special tickets for adults plus a child up to 17 or Adult tickets and found the perfect venue. The icing on the cake is taking home your very own Artwork on canvas, giving you long lasting memories of this special creative experience!

How does the workshop work?

Well you will experience 1st hand what it is like to be an artist using all the equipment easels. There is a choice of themes to pick from at each workshop and I will guide you through expertly helping you to achieve success to create your own painting at your own individual level through some guidance and quiet, supportive 1-1 tuition within the group, weather you are an Adult, teen or child. There will be a break for cake and drinks.

What do I need to bring?

Everything you will need is provided so after booking, just arrive and enjoy the morning. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Do I need to be able to paint?

The answer is no ๐Ÿ˜Š As long as you or your child can hold a brush and sit and concentrate for an hour and a half at a time and you would like to create then that is all you need. I will help you to feel more confident and relax. Roughly half of the adults on the Workshops had not painted since school and surprised themselves in a positive way and really enjoyed spending time creating. If you decide to bring a family member who is a child, grandchild, daughter, nephew, expect that they will enjoy having you there too! The surprise here too is that they are often impressed with what you can do.

The Venue and refreshments

The York Holiday Park is a wonderful venue helping you to feel relaxed as you arrive. Parking is accessible down a wide driveway, a 2 minute walk onsite and the front doors and venue is flat and located next to the carpark, being accessed through large double doors. Please see the video clips to give you a clear idea and take away the mystery of arrival. Delicious cake and drinks are included in the ticket price and made onsite and served by the Old Barn Cafe. Hope you will join us, kindest regards, Rebecca Jayne- Artist

Positive January Thoughts

Winter painting in the North Yorkshire countryside

It is the time of year When we are moving far away from the summer, our store of sunshine vitamins is running out and there isnt quite enough light. We can be indoors more than usual because the weather is changeable and so we can be drawn into looking at social media more where what we see isn’t really a true reflection of the world or we see more bad news than we would normally see When there is a crisis.

Balance is so important isnt it? Well Im feeling really thankful today, I am lucky that I have such lovely friends and family members, peer independents and customers who help me to keep it real and remind me about Balance!
It is so easy to get swept away with doing more and more to try and keep up with everything going on in an unbalanced way that we see online and think this is normal when it’s not. The shouty loud approches that do not work for everyone and to develop a fear of missing out but all that happens is doing too much can eventually lead to burn out for lots of people.

Healthy balance through creativity

There are ways of keeping a good healthy balance which can really help with the January blues. One is to tune into more positive images and to limit negative ones and see more of the people who make you happy ๐Ÿ˜Šโ˜€๏ธ

Creativity or creative activities, solo or as part of a group really do make you feel great, when we are in creative flow we are absorbed in the process and it is wonderfully peaceful and calming. Quiet time each day or week works wonders for listening to how we are feeling whilst we create, often we pick up signs when we truly stop like, I’m feeling so tired..what could I do about That? Joining an art class or workshop can be very positive because there is often a supportive environment and others who are also going to enjoy the creative process so it brings more positive balance to your week.

If you can get outside even for a short time it can be wonderful to get fresh air and to see what is happening and to observe the very life growing around us. Every little change reminds us that Spring is on its way, new life cycles, lambs, spring growth and for those who love gardening, a whole new growing cycle.

I am not a trained health professional, I am simply me, a mum and an artist with a family, who is enjoying life and sharing what works for me and I hope this helps at least one person pick up a pencil or brush, feel happier in nature, keep a more positive balance just for them and most importantly realise they are wonderful โ˜€๏ธ

Planning a few lovely things into your life is a lovely way to start. Mine is to grow lots of veg this year and make a new area in the garden. I’d love to hear any lovely things you are planning ๐ŸŒŸ

Happy January Thoughts to you๐Ÿ’—

New Year-Bringing Joy

Happy New Years wishes to you all on New Year’s Day 2020! I love the simplicity of the New Year and like to keep my hopes and wishes as simple as possible as I know that it will work for me with plenty of open ended flexibility. We are all so different and i truly believe that if we have faith in our own abilities, celebrate our unique skills and find a way of focusing on what we love that we will find more Joy! For some of you that will mean planning, listing, sketching, noting, creating a vision board, working more intuitively or simply a Sticky note with your intentions on the mirror. The point is it doesn’t matter as long as it helps you on your journey and it suits you. It doesn’t need to be a masterpiece-just one movement of a pencil.

Mine is very simple- Bring More Joy! Written in my Sketchbook which i will add to in lots of messy notes and scribbles so that it weaves in across all areas of life- That’s it for now. So here is the the 1st of some of my new work ‘Angels’ which brings me much Joy and I have a beautiful feeling it will bring Joy to others too. Each Angel brings a different message. More on Angels later. Look out soon for ‘Sending Love’, ‘Sending Peace’ and ‘Sending Light’, I hope they bring you comfort and Joy too or even perhaps help remind you to note something wonderful that you deserve in your life this year! November- Nature’s Warm Palette

The Autumn turning of colours has been slow this year but oh my goodness does it still take my breath away! The Oak trees have been a spectacular shade of orange, that I did not see last year. The colours are just one of the wonders of the Autumn. Walks really inspires my paintings, I set out with my family and dog into the woods and over the moorland, roaming and always feel recharged and return capturing the woody textures, magnificent layers of trees and the beautiful deep Autumn skies- the tones of those skies, where sun meets rain cloud, especially awe inspiring in the late afternoon! Catching the light before dusk in my caravan studio is really important in the Autumn as the light ends earlier and the dark nights draw in. I can only get a true likeness of the colours in the daylight.

Through Silton woods towards Square Corner A4 oil on board
‘Kilburn Top at Autumn Dusk’ viewover The White Horse

We are hanging onto the last oranges and yellows from many tree-lined walks now but wow, what a stunning carpet of leaves. If you can, I hope you can take a lovely, slow walk outside and enjoy the views, wherever you are. If you love the North York Moors, then please enjoy the views from my page.

Winter Workshops

Sharing the love of creativity

January and February are the perfect time to cosy up indoors and naturally it is a time of deep rest for nature outside. Trees are regenerating quietly and have shed their leaves so they can rest, many animals are hibernating and migrating birds have left for warmer climates as food is scarce.

In tune with nature’s true cycles when the days are at their shortest, we feel the need too, to rest in the warmth. It is during this time when we have slowed down our pace, that we can find the pleasure of connecting to our creativity again and discover the joy that creativity is part of our natural human instinct. It fills our soul on cold, dull day and we feel more connected to ourselves, others and the natural world around us, once we start creativity is contagious.

So here lies the inspiration for the first Acrylic Workshop! I have designed this ‘Winter Wonderland’ Acrylic workshop to celebrate this special season and create space and time for family and friends to get together and connect through Painting together. With some helpful tips, techniques and lots of kind support and of course some lovely fresh tea and cake to keep warm. Set in a beautiful converted barn location. Come and join us! Every level of experience welcome because creativity is for everyone to enjoy!

The tickets below are for One adult plus One child up to the Age of 17 Years, for adult only tickets or to purchase an additional child ticket with an adult already booked on please email and I will arrange tickets for you if there is space available.
