Spotlight Painting ‘Sunflowers ‘

This spring and Summer has been one of the best for warmth and sun and early sunflowers are starting to flower! They are one of the most wonderful blooms to bring cheer and happiness with their gorgeous colours and shapes. They bring back very happy memories for me, of fields nodding happily in the South of France on holidays as a child, carefree with my feet in the sand and dusty forest campsite floor! There is just something very special indeed about them, turning their heads, following the sun. I fell in love with Van Gogh’s painting as a teenager and must have been influenced by his work and the Mediterranean way of life as I just love using colour and free movement in my paintings too. If one thing is for sure, when the sun goes down and the Winter draws in, Sunflowers captured on canvas, continue to bring pure joy and a smile all year around! Long live summer!

I thought it would be really lovely to share with you what goes on in my daily life as an artist and in particular what the journey is for that finished artwork or painting and finally a beautiful greetings Card! Starting in my Garden, growing flowers from seed. nurturing, creating by hand, painting and transferring something beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
So here is a little snapshot in video form. It’s so difficult to show sometimes how all the strands of an Artists way of life are so closely interconnected, one does not exist without another. So I have tried my best in a little video.
Have a wonderful long weekend and if you like my cards I will pop the link below for you to order. So easy and they arrive through your letterbox, just like that.

The Enchanted Landscapes, Myths and Legends Painting Art Workshop near Thirsk Was truly magical! The photo above tells an important story of transformation and what being an artist is truly about.

I just love to see the transformation when creativity is encouraged, supported and guided! It is absolutely wonderful to see all the blank canvases which are filled over the session with marks, colours and layers of wonderful careful thinking, placement, colours which have been mixed and tried out first and each of those lines is a brave and bold go at painting! Each person’s painting is a representation of the faith they had in the process, even when it does not often look how we want it to until sometimes the last part of the session.

The transformation is also very much about every lovely person’s connection with their own piece, getting lost in the flow of painting and the real joy in their progress realising how much they have learned over the time and then to really see what a wonderful, unique artwork they have done!! It is so fantastic! Even though I know what to expect, I’m still so happy to be lucky enough to be a part of this very special process as coach and teacher! It still blows me away. It doesn’t matter about age either younger or older, the joy is there for everyone, in little moments of surprise about what they have produced!

Creating time for Art is really positive. For our well being, being lost in the moment, relaxing and enjoying colours and especially playing and experimenting. Can you be an Artist- Of course you can! If you would like to join the next workshop, please click the links, you are always very welcome to join us X

I am so pleased to announce that following the success and interest in the Autumn and Winter block of Art classes at Thirsk and Sowerby Town hall, lovely ground floor Annex, the Spring block of weekly Art Classes will be beginning in March! There are evening classes or daytime classes running over 6 weeks each for 2 hours. New subjects will be introduced.

I welcome anyone who wants to join the Art Classes daytime or evening, complete beginner, hobby artist and semi/ professional artists are all welcome! All you need is an attitude of wanting to try.I am an experienced, supportive teacher and working artist and will help to guide, encourage and offer tips and techniques to build both your confidence and skills at Your level. Everyone works successfully at their own journey point in the Art Classes. This is meant to be as much a relaxing and welcoming class, where you can switch off from everyday life and focus on the enjoyment of learning to create in different ways, it isn’t designed to be a competitive environment at all.
Each week costs £12.50 and that includes two hours including tuition, tips, one to one tuition as part of a group, hot drinks and biscuits, cake or fruit. You will need to btring your own materials and guidance is given for this ahead of time so you have plenty of time to arrange this. There is an early bird offer which is available until 3rd March when all 6 sessions are paid in advance for £70.

You will be part of a group of people who are also interested in Art, where positive comments and praise are encouraged. You will feel welcome! Many of my art group have continued and report that they really look forward to coming each week. Of course you will feel more confident as the weeks go on and learn new ways to create which is lovely in itself. In addition we also have an art class outing arranged for Spring which is Art focused but of course fun too!
