One Artist’s Life

I thought it would be really lovely to share with you what goes on in my daily life as an artist and in particular what the journey is for that finished artwork or painting and finally a beautiful greetings Card! Starting in my Garden, growing flowers from seed. nurturing, creating by hand, painting and transferring something beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

So here is a little snapshot in video form. It’s so difficult to show sometimes how all the strands of an Artists way of life are so closely interconnected, one does not exist without another. So I have tried my best in a little video.

Have a wonderful long weekend and if you like my cards I will pop the link below for you to order. So easy and they arrive through your letterbox, just like that.

Joy of a Handwritten Card

One of the lovely things to have come out of our time spent at home together has been rediscovering writing to loved ones, family and friends. Yes our teenage children still send messages through social media, but it has been really special to sit around the kitchen table and really think about what kind messages to write to Grandma or to family friends and how it will make them smile!

Our blank Greetings cards have been the perfect choice to send because there is just enough space to create a special message and weekly update and the children and adults have loved picking different designs to ‘surprise’ each time. They are so uplifting and cheerful and have been written and received with joy! It is particularly lovely to know that each of the cards started out as a painting and that the cheery names are on the back.

Did you know that the custom of sending greetings cards can be traced back to early Egyption times when greetings were exchanged on pyrus scrolls and then in Europe by the early 15th Century handmade paper cards.

Whilst the greetings cards are not on pyrus paper, they are helpful to the environment printed on sustainably sourced fsc card stock and inside compostable cellos.

With so many to choose from, everyone can be included and you are sure to raise a smile- for many weeks because who doesn’t like to display their card with beautiful sentiments where it can be reread?

The Wonder of Art Workshops!

The Enchanted Landscapes, Myths and Legends Painting Art Workshop near Thirsk Was truly magical! The photo above tells an important story of transformation and what being an artist is truly about.

I just love to see the transformation when creativity is encouraged, supported and guided! It is absolutely wonderful to see all the blank canvases which are filled over the session with marks, colours and layers of wonderful careful thinking, placement, colours which have been mixed and tried out first and each of those lines is a brave and bold go at painting! Each person’s painting is a representation of the faith they had in the process, even when it does not often look how we want it to until sometimes the last part of the session.

The transformation is also very much about every lovely person’s connection with their own piece, getting lost in the flow of painting and the real joy in their progress realising how much they have learned over the time and then to really see what a wonderful, unique artwork they have done!! It is so fantastic! Even though I know what to expect, I’m still so happy to be lucky enough to be a part of this very special process as coach and teacher! It still blows me away. It doesn’t matter about age either younger or older, the joy is there for everyone, in little moments of surprise about what they have produced!

Caught in the special creative flow
Observing creative transformation

Creating time for Art is really positive. For our well being, being lost in the moment, relaxing and enjoying colours and especially playing and experimenting. Can you be an Artist- Of course you can! If you would like to join the next workshop, please click the links, you are always very welcome to join us X

February Family Friendly Painting Workshops near Thirsk

Warm the heart with creativity on a cold winter Saturday with the ‘Myths and Legends’ inspired workshop 10-1PM Saturday 29th February

Well, January saw the launch of the first Family Friendly Painting Workshop held at York House Holiday Park in Balk, near Thirsk North Yorkshire. It was a joy to run and everyone had such a lovely time, learning new painting skills and techniques together in this wonderful, calm relaxed holiday environment, whilst enjoying the gorgeous refreshments provided by the Old Barn Cafe on site.

The Aim of the family friendly workshops is to create space, opportunity and some special time to create together as a family if wanted or alone to relax and I’m happy to say that we had families, mum’s and daughters of all ages and people coming for a calm time on their own and it was a wonderful morning.

The idea came from a few friends who said they would love to make time to come and paint with their children who love art and create some special memories❤🎨 So I designed the workshop to allow special tickets for adults plus a child up to 17 or Adult tickets and found the perfect venue. The icing on the cake is taking home your very own Artwork on canvas, giving you long lasting memories of this special creative experience!

How does the workshop work?

Well you will experience 1st hand what it is like to be an artist using all the equipment easels. There is a choice of themes to pick from at each workshop and I will guide you through expertly helping you to achieve success to create your own painting at your own individual level through some guidance and quiet, supportive 1-1 tuition within the group, weather you are an Adult, teen or child. There will be a break for cake and drinks.

What do I need to bring?

Everything you will need is provided so after booking, just arrive and enjoy the morning. 😊

Do I need to be able to paint?

The answer is no 😊 As long as you or your child can hold a brush and sit and concentrate for an hour and a half at a time and you would like to create then that is all you need. I will help you to feel more confident and relax. Roughly half of the adults on the Workshops had not painted since school and surprised themselves in a positive way and really enjoyed spending time creating. If you decide to bring a family member who is a child, grandchild, daughter, nephew, expect that they will enjoy having you there too! The surprise here too is that they are often impressed with what you can do.

The Venue and refreshments

The York Holiday Park is a wonderful venue helping you to feel relaxed as you arrive. Parking is accessible down a wide driveway, a 2 minute walk onsite and the front doors and venue is flat and located next to the carpark, being accessed through large double doors. Please see the video clips to give you a clear idea and take away the mystery of arrival. Delicious cake and drinks are included in the ticket price and made onsite and served by the Old Barn Cafe. Hope you will join us, kindest regards, Rebecca Jayne- Artist
